This was the first piece I made when I got back to sculpting full time. I simply loved it for it's graceful shape...

Palmas are one of the emblemic stone objects associated with the ball game. A sacrificial ceremonial game of the pre-columbian, post classic period 950 – 1200 AD. This particular design is of Toltec origin in the region of Central Veracruz. Archeologists are uncertain of the precise purpose of the palmas but the beauty of their form is undeniable.

Made from stoneware clay, stainless steel and hardwood base.
